Mt Fuji

Today started very cloudy but with no rain (yay!). We set out for Mt Fuji which is 3,776m high, we hoped to make it to the 5th station but due to snowfall we only made it to station 4, located 1,000m up the mountain. Fortunately the cloud lifted briefly and we finally got out first view of the mountain. And of the Japanese Alps. We also had time exploring the Mt Fuji Visitors Centre.

Our lunch stop was at the lakeside town of Azagawa complete with the kitch plastic swan boats. Our lunch cooked at the table over a burner a pork dish with bean sprouts and mushrooms.

Then onwards to a UNESCO World Heritage Park and the town of Oshini Hakkai renowned for its 8 pure spring water seeping down over 80 years through the volcanic soils of Mt Fuji.

We filled our drink bottles from the dragon tap, stared into the crystal clear waters with the brightly coloured blue and yellow trout. Plus tasted some of the traditional foods. Largely made from rice and bean paste. Some flavoured with mugwort (green sweets) or a thick sweet glaze brushed on before the final cook on the grill.

Ended back at our hotel with a walk along the foreshore. Then a beautifully presented traditional Japanese meal at the hotel restaurant.
